The numbers are in and homicides in Chicago dropped by nearly 100 last year compared to the previous year, 2017.
Chicago Police are saying that they credit the fact that they have an additional 1,000 new officers in the last few years which is helping those number decline.
To compare:
In 2016 there were more than 770 homicides.
In 2017 there were 660.
In 2018, 561.
