A Chicago police officer was fatally shot inside the Thompson Center in Chicago's Loop Tuesday afternoon.
Spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the off-duty officer was shot twice in the head by "an assailant" while trying to break up a gun deal.
The high-ranking district police official was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
