Hawks fans banned from home games after racist taunts

Four fans have been banned from Blackhawks home games after their racist taunts toward Washington Capitals forward Devante Smith-Pelly.

Smith-Pelly was sitting in the penalty box when the fans yelled "basketball, basketball, basketball'' toward the player. The fans were promptly ejected by United Center security.

The Blackhawks also apologized to Smith-Pelly and the Capitals. "Totally unacceptable in our game, in any sport and in society today,'' Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said.
