Personally I'm not interested in drinking or eating anything with the word "charcoal" in it.
However, I see a lot of menus around Chicago offering new charcoal-infused foods! From coffee to ice cream, this new fad seems to be popping up everywhere.
So... Is it actually safe to eat? Well the answer is sort of yes and no.
Dr. Roshini Raj warns against consuming activated charcoal on a regular basis. “If you’re repeatedly doing this, it can build up and it can also interact with medications you’re taking,” he says.
The occasional charcoal food is okay, but enjoy it in moderation. Or, if you're like me, just sit this fad out!
