Police officers in Michigan City, Indiana made a disturbing discovery this week when a woman was found injured on the back porch of a home, covered in feces, lice, and maggots.
Police then found 35 dogs inside the home, in deplorable health. Many of the dogs were so ill, they couldn't walk or stand.
The woman relinquished ownership of the dogs, who were taken to a shelter where they can be nursed back to health and hopefully will find forever homes with families who will care for them.
The woman remains hospitalized, and police say she is in serious condition.
