I know watching the headlines in Chicago can be tough... It feels like crime in the city is at an all-time high, and every day we hear about another shooting.
But things are looking up! July crime numbers are out, and violent crime in the city was down 10% last month!
According to the Chicago Police Department, the drop was in shootings and murders. The city saw 59 murders last month, compared to 77 murders in July of 2017.
There were 332 shooting victims, down from 415 victims last year.
The reason? CPD says they've put more officers on the street, and are continuing their plan to grow the force by 1,000 new officers.
