How to Get Around the City With Today's Massive Protest

Today in Chicago, a massive anti-violence protest will shut down major parts of Lake Shore Drive and other major streets.

Protesters will gather at Belmont, march onto northbound Lake Shore Drive around 4 p.m. and block traffic there for a period of time. Then the march will head west on Belmont to Clark Street and will then take Clark north to the ballpark.

The protest will take place at the height of evening rush hour, and will cause a nightmare for commuters. Here are some suggestions from our friends over at ABC 7 for avoiding the gridlock:

- Use streets west of Wrigley: Ashland, Damen, Lincoln and Western avenues

- As a general rule, the farthest west you can go, the better

- Avoid taking CTA buses No. 147 Outer Drive Express, the No. 22 Clark and the No. 77 Belmont

- Use CTA Red or Brown lines or Metra's Union-Pacific North Line
