Illinois Firefighters Save Man and His Pet Parrot

Firefighters often find themselves saving family pets-- like cats and dogs. But these Belleville, Illinois firefighters got quite a surprise when they were called to save someone's parrot!

This 66-year-old man had been out for a stroll with his parrot when the bird got stuck in the mud of a recently dredged lake. The owner went in to help him out, and then got stuck himself. Fire Chief Tom Pour said, "This was a pretty tame pet," and that during the rescue, "he was more than happy to stay on his owner's shoulder and ride the whole ride back to the shore."
