Lake Michigan Hazard; Three Drownings Over the Weekend

The National Weather Service says a beach hazard went into effect at 1 a.m. Monday for Lake Michigan, and will be in effect until late Monday night. Red flags will be at all beaches, warning beachgoers not to enter the water due to high waves and strong rip currents creating life-threatening conditions.

This warning comes on the heels of a horrific weekend where three boys drowned. A 10-year-old and a 14-year-old boy were pulled from the water within an hour of each other on Saturday evening at Indiana Dunes State Park beach. On Friday, a 14-year-old boy was rescued from the water near Waukegan. He died at a local hospital.
