Chicago Safe Passage Worker Shot in the Back Near CTA Station

A shooting near a Green Line CTA station Thursday morning left a Safe Passage worker in serious condition at a local hospital.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the gunman exited a vehicle around 8:15 a.m. The man fired his weapon, then returned to the car and drove off. Police say the gunman was firing at someone else when he hit the Safe Passage worker, who is identified so far as only a man in his 30's. The shooting happened south of Austin Town Hall Park, about a block away from Ellington Elementary School.

Police are canvassing the area and checking local security cameras.
