The Federal Communications Commission recently issued a warning to consumers that spoofing technology and spoofing calls are on the rise during tax season.
Scammers will use spoofing technology to make it look like someone from the IRS is calling you, demanding you make an immediate payment.
As a reminder, the IRS will never call you or email you, and they will never demand a cash payment, wire transfer, or payment in gift cards. That last one might seem obvious, but often the targets of these scams are people who really don't know.
If you receive a suspicious call or email, report it here.
