9-Year-Old Gets Face Surgery for Rare Defect

Simao Meco is not your ordinary 9-year-old. This sweet little boy was brave enough to recently endure a dangerous operation that gave him a new face.

Meco was born with a rare defect known as Tessier craniofacial cleft, which left the two sides of his face unaligned. As he grew, he began losing sight in his right eye and had trouble breathing. According to his mother, Lisa, Meco was constantly bullied by other children.

Then pediatric plastic surgeon Dr. James Bradley stepped in. He took the case pro bono and spent six hours reconstructing Simao's face.

This strong, brave boy is an inspiration!
