How Hailey Baldwin Found Help With Her Struggles With Anxiety

Celebrity Sightings In New York City - March 08, 2019

Hailey Baldwin is getting real about her struggle with anxiety.

On Tuesday (April 23), the model spoke about her ongoing struggle in a new interview with Glamour. In it, the 22-year-old recalled nights when she was unable to sleep to those that ended in tears — and how a little over a year ago her anxiety brought her to some of the lowest moments of her life.

Baldwin opened up about her troubles with anxiety and insecurities earlier this year. Now, on days when she's "struggling horribly" — even to the point when she "couldn't sleep" — the cover girl says she finds relief in self-help meditation and therapy.

"I read a book a year and a half ago. … It’s all about knowing that you don’t have to be ruled by your thoughts. You can take control and flip the thought around," she said of her experience. "You have to ask yourself questions like, 'Is that what’s really true?' or 'Do I really believe that is the absolute truth?' and counter what you think."

After making her struggles public, Baldwin hopes other celebrities will also be more transparent about their mental health issues. "We all struggle with it," she explained. "People look at celebrities who are famous or successful and think they have it all together. … But it's really kind of the opposite."

While Baldwin admits to once falling into the celebrity culture that pressured her to keep a happy face despite her anxiety, the star says raising awareness is key to healing.

"People would ask me, ‘How are you?’ and I’d be like, ‘I’m fine; I’m good.’ But really I’d be crying in my hotel room all night,” she explained. "You just have to be honest that life sucks sometimes. It's hard. Things are difficult. I just think the more we are open about it, the more we can help people find solutions."
