Newborn Found Abandoned in Alley in Hermosa Neighborhood

A newborn baby was found unresponsive in an alley in the Hermosa neighborhood. Thanks to the Good Samaritans who found him and rushed him to a nearby fire station, EMT's began working to safe his life immediately. He was rushed to Lurie Children's Hospital. His condition has been upgraded from critical to stable.

The baby was found wrapped in a towel, in a bag, on top of a garbage can. He was recently born, since the umbilical cord was still attached to his body. A local mother and her daughter heard his cries, and rushed him to their local fire house.

Firefighters would like to remind people all over Illinois that you can give up a newborn to a fire station, police station, or hospital with no questions asked thanks to Safe Haven Laws.
