This week 24-year-old Emmanuel Aranda pleaded guilty to attempted murder. Aranda is responsible for nearly murdering five-year-old Landen Hoffmann last month when he deliberately threw the child off the third floor balcony at the Mall of America.
Hoffmann was critically injured from the 40-foot fall, and it's a miracle he survived. He continues to fight for his recovery.
Now the mother of the man who nearly killed him is speaking out. She says her son has struggled with mental illness all his life. In the days leading up to the attempted murder, Aranda's family had contacted local police to report his condition. He shoved his sister three days before this incident, and she claims she alerted police to the incident.
