This system is absolutely broken. When hardworking, dual-income families are getting slammed with tax increases like this, and have to come up with thousands and thousands of dollars without warning, the system is broken. Plain and simple!
Chicago families are being driven out of Cook county by a massive property tax increase. CBS Chicago interviewed one family whose property taxes on their Ravenswood home increased from around $12,000 to over $20,000! They have no idea where they'll come up with the additional $800 a month they'll need to foot the bill, and plan on leaving the county altogether to get away from the massive and unpredictable tax increases.
