Tragic news hit our area this week as it was reported that a Chicago man was one of two soldiers killed in Afghanistan. Spc. Michael Isaiah Nance was assigned to the Army's 82nd Airborne Division. According to officials, he was killed at his base during a sneak attack. The incident is still under investigation.

Spc. Nance was a decorated veteran: he earned a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, and an Army Service Ribbon.

According to his family and friends, Nance was a natural leader with a great sense of humor. He is described as being a brilliant man who enjoyed his life.

Spc. Nance was fulfilling his lifelong dream of serving in the Armed Forces. We are forever in his debt. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
