CTA Attack Being Called a Robbery, But the Witnesses Call It a Hate Crime

Police are warning the public, and asking for information, about an assault last Saturday evening at the CTA Roosevelt station in the South Loop.

Mikey Murphy and four of his friends were riding the train home from a street festival in Boystown when a large group of approximately 15 to 20 teenagers and young adults boarded their car at the Roosevelt station. The group began shouting derogatory and homophobic remarks at the group. Then the attack became violent. The five men were assaulted, getting punched and kicked to the ground. One had their wallet stolen before the teens ran off the train.
