Dangerous Algae Found in Illinois Waters

Dangerous blooms of algae are being found in Illinois waters, and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Public Health are warning of risks to humans and pets.

Multiple recent dog deaths have been attributed to this toxic blue-green algae. Dogs can show symptoms of illness and distress just 30 minutes after being exposed to the dangerous water.

Be on the lookout! You can distinguish infected water by looking for a blueish-green paint-like appearance, and large clumps on the surface.

And if you happen to spot a body of water that you believe to be contaminated, please alert the Illinois EPA immediately!
