Talk about going above and beyond! This nurse is the employee of the century!
8-year-old Brayden Auten was your typical healthy, happy kid. He was athletic, strong, and rarely ever got sick. So when he suddenly began feeling very ill, his parents took it seriously. They knew something was wrong, and rushed him to a hospital in Milwaukee. Doctors quickly determined the cause of Brayden's symptoms, and it was a horrifying diagnosis-- an aggressive virus was attacking his liver, and it was potentially fatal.
His parents were shocked, and heartbroken. They didn't know how much time they would have left with their son. He needed a liver transplant badly, and the odds of finding a donor in time were astronomical.
Word of Brayden and his condition spread around the hospital, and ICU nurse Cami Loritz was touched by his story. She says it just wasn't fair that this family could lose their son, and Brayden could lose his life. She stepped up to be tested as a potential donor, and it turned out that she was a perfect match! Doctors took a portion of Cami's liver and gave it to Brayden.
The transplant was a huge success, and it saved Brayden's life!
