A Florida community is in mourning after police say a teenager was killed while protecting his sister during a home invasion. The Charlotte County Sheriff says Khyler Edman, 15, was watching his 5-year-old sister at their Port Charlotte home when someone knocked down the door. Their mother was not home at the time. Authorities say they discovered his body while canvassing local streets after receiving 911 calls about an injured man acting suspicious.
27-year-old Ryan Cole was found in the area, and has been charged with burglary and theft of a different home. Police continue to investigate the tragic death.
Khyler's heartbreaking story has people all around the country hailing the teenager as a hero, who selflessly gave his life to protect his baby sis. A family spokesperson says the honor student loved his family, and was his sister's keeper.
