Imagine losing a furry member of the family and finding hope of reuniting, only to have that hope yanked from you. Local pet owners who have lost their pets are warning others of a horrible scam going on in the Chicagoland area.
CBS Chicago has investigated the issue and found tons of people in the area who were targeted. After losing a pet and posting about it online, the pet owners received anonymous messages from people claiming they had the pet. However, they refused to give the pets back unless they were given money. The texters asked for hundreds of dollars. Owners became suspicious when the texters refused to send photos of their supposedly rescued pets.
