Journalist Allie Conti wasn't looking for a story, she was just looking for a vacation! She booked an Airbnb here in Chicago for a trip with friends, and ended up uncovering a massive scam. Minutes before Conti and her friends were to check in to their rental, they received a call from their host, who told them their apartment was flooded. He invited them to stay at a different property, which Conti described as “a flophouse.” “It’s a classic bait and switch,” Conti told InsideEdition.com. She ended up finding multiple listings and accounts all run by the same con artist, and victims of the scam in different cities, too. Since the alleged incident, Airbnb has pledged to institute consumer protections.
