Shedd Aquarium needs our help!
This past July, one of the beautiful beluga whales at the aquarium gave birth! The now 330 pound calf is the Shedd's first birth of a belgua whale in seven years! And now the male baby beluga needs a name!
The five potential name options reflect the calf's "strong, playful and independent" personality and come from the language of the Inuit, the native people of the beluga's native Arctic range, according to a news release from the aquarium.
Voting is open now, and closes on the evening of November 21.
The name options are:
- Annik: meaning blizzard
- Imavik: meaning ocean
- Ikullak: meaning confident
- Naniitchuck: meaning brave
- Kulu: term of endearment for babies and young children
