Hepatitis A Outbreak Linked to Berries Sold in Illinois

The CDC announced this week that an outbreak of Hepatitis A has been linked to fresh blackberries sold in 11 different states, including right here in Illinois.

Hepatitis A is a virus that infects the liver and can cause mild, flu-like symptoms for several weeks.

The berries were all sold between September 9 and the 30th, and were sold at the Midwest grocery store chain Fresh Thyme Farmers Market. Eleven people have become ill, and health officials are trying to figure out how this happened.

Fresh Thyme operates out of Downers Grove. The company has not yet commented on the news of the outbreak.
