Heartbreaking: 56 Children with DCFS History Died in the Past 6 Months

Shocking and disturbing news in Chicago this morning.

An internal memo from the Department for Children and Family Services, known as DCFS, promises "change" in the department after 56 children with DCFS history died in the past six months. Between July 2018 and June 2019, 123 children with DCFS history died.

The process for keeping children safe is changing, with the goal of getting children into protective custody faster. More than 300 new employees will join the department as well.

My heart breaks for every single one of those children. They were failed by their parents, their families, and then finally by our system. I truly hope these new measures will work, and save their innocent lives.
