Dogs Suffer Painful Shocks from Electrified Manhole Cover in Chicago

Several dogs out for walks on Sunday in East Lakeview ended up on the ground, writhing in pain after stepping on a manhole cover. It turns out the manhole at the corner of Halsted Street and Wellington Avenue was electrified.

Police say the injuries were not life-threatening, however one witness said a dog was laying on the manhole for 20 minutes, barking in pain, with blood coming out of his mouth. Witnesses also say they believe some of the dogs may have suffered seizures.

Animal Care and Control sent out teams in response to the incidents. Area dog owners are extremely troubled, and want the city to figure out what happened.
