Chicago Special Education Teacher Charged with Sexual Assault

This breaking news has rocked a Chicago neighborhood, and the details are highly disturbing for parents to hear.

Sara Damyan, who had worked as a special education teacher at Alessandro Volta Elementary School in Albany Park, is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy. Damyan, 33, is in police custody. She was removed from the classroom in March of 2019 and fired in September 2019.

According to police, the child was not one of her students but she would bring snacks for him and other students to the school. She allegedly gave him her cell phone number, and they began messaging and talking on the phone. Police say they communicated on the phone more than 12,000 times together.

The boy wasn’t her student, but she would bring snacks to him and other students after school. She also allegedly gave the boy and the others her cell phone number.

Damyan allegedly invited the boy to her Logan Square home where the assault took place. Police say she gave him tea with marijuana in it and cannabis gummy bears, before watching a movie together. Then, while they were watching, Damyan allegedly sexually assaulted him.

A few weeks later, Damyan was carrying around a teddy bear when she met up with a friend. The friend thought this was "odd" behavior, and asked about it. Damyan confided in the friend about the student, and also said the bear was used to hide marijuana pens and that she brought it to work so she and the student could smoke at school.

The friend brought this information to administrators at the school.
