Gov. Pritzker Issues Stronger Guidelines for Grocery Store Safety

Over the weekend, Illinois governor J. B. Pritzker announced new stronger guidelines he's urging all grocery stores in Illinois follow. Grocery stores serve an essential purpose for us all right now, but unfortunately that can make them a breeding ground for the coronavirus. It's vital that the stores, and all of us, do our part to keep them clean and safe! The new guidelines encourage all grocery stores to do as many of the following as possible:

  • add cashier barriers at the checkouts
  • create six-foot markers on the floor spacing out customers at a safe distance
  • give audio announcements reminding customers to practice 6-foot social distancing
  • prohibit the use of reusable bags

The best thing we can all do is stay out of grocery stores as much as possible, and only go when you truly need something. No more wandering around Target just because you're bored! You can also use more curbside pickup and delivery services. If you have to shop in-store, try to use self-checkout and cashless payments when possible.

When you get home, wipe down containers and wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating!
