2 Atlanta Officers Fired After Disturbing Video of Arrest Goes Viral

Demonstrations against police brutality and systemic racism took place in at least 140 different cities around the U.S. in the wake of the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police.

In Atlanta, six officers have been charged with various crimes after a disturbing video shows the police tasering two college students and yanking them out of a car. In the video, which was captured by news crews and shown live on TV as the incident occured, you can see officers break the driver's side window of the car as it sits in traffic. The officers slash the car's tires before using tasers on the driver, 22-year-old Morehouse College student Messiah Young, and the passenger, 20-year-old Spelman College student Taniyah Pilgrim.

District Attorney Paul Howard conducted an investigation into the incident and said the students involved were “extremely innocent.”  “My investigation concluded they were so innocent almost to the point of being naive,” Howard said.

Howard announced that six officers have been charged in the case, and two have been fired.
