Reba McEntire addressed “clickbait” articles stating the country star is leaving The Voice, allegedly claiming after attracting readers that McEntire is selling weight loss products. McEntire posted a statement on her social media accounts — including a screenshot of one of the “fake websites” on Instagram — on Sunday evening (February 25) to set the record straight.
“Please do not click on any articles that say I am leaving The Voice. This is not true,” McEntire cautioned in her statement. “These are fake websites to lure people in with clickbait where they claim I have a company to sell weight loss gummy products. This is false. I do not sell or promote any type of gummy product. Please report these posts if you see them on Facebook or Instagram.”
McEntire is set to return to The Voice on Monday night (February 26) along with fellow returning coaches Chance the Rapper and John Legend, plus first-time coaches — and the first-ever coaching duo — Dan + Shay. McEntire was confirmed as a coach on The Voice following her role as Mega Mentor during longtime coach Blake Shelton’s final season last year. McEntire also served as a Battle Advisor during the first season of the show in 2011.
McEntire isn’t alone in speaking out against false claims online, including in regard to weight loss gummies. Bell Bottom Country artist Lainey Wilson, for example, called out “entirely fake” weight loss ads in a PSA last year. Wilson said at that time that “it ain’t true. …If I have lost weight, it’s because I am working hard and playing hour and a half shows and running around every night of my life. And to be honest, me losing weight or gaining weight ain’t got anything to do with my music. …Do not fall for it.”
