Little Sylvie Beckers made a scientific breakthrough, before even entering the first grade! It began while the curious 5-year-old was gardening with her mom at their Kentucky home. Sylvie overwatered the flower bed and caused some funny, bright green bugs to rise to the surface. Her mom, Laura Sullivan-Beckers, is an assistant professor of biology at Murray State University and a self-proclaimed lover of bugs. She decided to look into these unusual insects further. Turns out, they were a whole new species of bug, right there in the Beckers' backyard! The bug was named after the little budding scientist, and it's now known as the Hebetica Sylvii.
