Got Broken Hockey Sticks? Turn Them Into Something AWESOME!

Hockey is one of the most popular sports in the midwest. You, or someone you know, definitely has some old sticks laying around, taking up space in the garage or the basement. Here's what you can do with your old and broken sticks, instead of just tossing them!

Researchers in Florida are turning broken old hockey sticks into artificial reefs. Why hockey sticks? Dr. Mike Parson of Florida Gulf Coast University said, "They're carbon composite material. So they don't break down easily, so you're throwing them in a landfill. And they're just sitting there." The repurposed sticks will soon be home to marine life, including oysters. And those oysters help filter water, potentially thousands of gallons a day.
