How an Amish Upbringing Led This Woman to Create Auntie Anne's

Anne Beiler had an upbringing unlike most people. "I grew up on an Amish farm in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania," she said in an recent interview. She was one of eight children, and says her upbringing on a farm while unique was safe, fun, and wonderful! It may seem like an unlikely start for someone who would grow up to found Auntie Anne's pretzels, the international chain of soft pretzel stands. Beiler credits her Amish country upbringing for her later business success. "Growing up on the farm," she said, "we were taught how to work hard. My dad actually made us believe that working is fun." From milking 40 cows twice a day, to becoming the family baker at the age of 12, Beiler learned early that hard work could pay off.
