Cheerleader Speaks Out About Injury Sustained During Stunt

These former cheerleaders are speaking out about their sport, and the dangers that can come along with cheering. Riley Benjamin suffered a traumatic brain injury when she was 18-years-old after a teammate fell on top of her during a stunt. The teammate was 15 feet in the air when she came down, hitting Benjamin in the left side of her jaw. She had to relearn to walk.

Other former cheerleaders are opening up about the injuries they sustained, like severe concussions. Some say their injuries led them to substance abuse, months of missed school, and lifelong health issues. Many still struggle today:
