Some Dos and Don'ts for Memorial Day During the Pandemic

This Memorial Day will look unlike any other. Parades and large gatherings are out. But you can (and should!) still take some time to honor the men and women who made the greatest sacrifice for our freedoms. Decorate the lawn with some American flags to spread that patriotic cheer around the neighborhood. Gather your family and watch the National Memorial Day Concert, on PBS this Sunday at 8pm (details here.) Decorate your bike with red, white, and blue gear and put on a mini parade for your neighbors.

Memorial Day is also considered an "unofficial" start to summer for most. Typically we spend the weekend gathering with friends to enjoy the outdoors. If you plan to have a social distance-style gathering, here are some ideas to keep it safe:

  • Keep it outside. Consider gathering on your lawn with neighbors.
  • Ditch the buffet! Avoid community dishes and opt for individual portions like mini bags of chips and canned drinks
  • Keeping six feet of distance between individuals is a must
  • Consider wearing masks if you think you may not be able to keep 6 feet away from people
