Before you know it the kiddies will be headed back to school, which is why so many parents are probably hitting the stores right now for back-to-school shopping, and according to a new survey, they’ll be spending more than they have in the past.
A new RetailMeNot poll finds that parents expect to spend $507 shopping for the new school year, $40 more dollars than last year. As for what they’ll be spending their money on:
- $212 on clothes - up from $189
- $209 on electronics - up from $186
- $104 on shoes - up from $95
And while kids may hate the thought of going back to school, it sounds like parents equally despise the idea of back-to-school shopping. In fact, 48% of parents say back-to-school shopping stresses them out, with moms feeling more pressure than dads (54% vs. 41%).
One of those stressors could be a need to find the best deal, with 71% of parents admitting they will wait until they find the best deal before making any purchases, with 67% saying savings are more important during back-to-school shopping than any other time of the year.
