I Ugly Cried At This Video Of Soldiers Reuniting With Their Pets
By Trace In The Truck
I said I wasn't going to do it this year. I said wasn't going to look at soldier homecoming videos but I lied to myself and fell down a rabbit hole on Youtube and stumbled across this gem. This video absolutely WRECKED me. Sitting in the studio right now trying to find tissues. I can't imagine having to leave my home to go to a place I very well might not come back from to protect strangers I've never met before. Leaving family behind for weeks/months/years at a time, putting my life on the line every day in the name of freedom is courage I will never have but I sure as hell respect those that do have it. Telling friends and family you're leaving is a tough and an incredibly painful thing to have to do, but over time they understand. You know who can't comprehend that? These soldier's pets. And that's why I'm blubbering like a baby because dogs don't understand why someone leaves. They just don't. You could be gone for two minutes to take the trash out and your dog greets you like you've been gone for 12 hours.
If you're a dog, you have no idea why your mom or dad just left you with someone else for months, they don't understand where you went, they feel abandoned. Just thinking about it gets me all worked up again. If only they knew that their owner is among the bravest Americans in this beautiful country and they left to protect our freedom. That's what makes these homecoming videos so emotionally powerful. Not only is the dog happier than hell to have his owner back but the soldiers themselves have come home and are safe. To all current and former service members, thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping me and my family safe and giving me the chance to do what I do. You truly are all heroes.
