(WGNTV) – Police say a woman was hospitalized after accidentally falling about 40 feet (12 meters) from an upper level at Chicago’s Soldier Field while attending a men’s soccer tournament.
Chicago police said in a statement that the 23-year-old woman was taken to a hospital in stable condition following the fall Sunday night during the CONCACAF Gold Cup final.
Police spokeswoman Ana Pacheco tells the Chicago Tribune that the woman wasn’t badly hurt and “was very lucky.”
Can you imagine?? I've never been close enough to a railing at any sporting event to worry about falling over it, I prefer to be further back for this exact reason, but I can see how incredibly easy it could be. A few too many $20 beers at Soldier Field (don't get me started on those prices) and whoops, over you go. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often, honestly. Everytime I'm at a concert, at least once, I find myself looking up at the railings and wondering to myself if I'd survive the fall. Most scenarios involve me having superhuman abilities and reflexes in order to not die, in other words, I'd break like an egg. Glad to hear this woman is alive and ok though! Maybe watching the game from the concourse next time will be the safer choice. But what do I know. - @Traceahamilton
